St Martin's Day & Goose Season

11th November, then all season long

The Best of the Goose is back from 11 November until late January.

Choose our Best of the Goose plate, or pre-order the Ganze Gans (whole goose) for 4–6 guests to share. Both are served with all the seasonal trimmings: red cabbage, German-style kale, bread dumplings, goose sauce, poached pear and lingonberries.

In 2024, our goose menu sold out early. This year we’ve ordered more, but recommend booking in November or December to avoid disappointment.

A roast goose on a platter is served with vegetables, surrounded by glasses of red wine, a wine bottle, and small pots of side dishes on a white tablecloth in an elegant restaurant setting.

Who is St. Martin?

The story behind Germany’s traditional goose feast

St. Martin, Germany’s patron saint of the poor, is remembered every year on 11 November with a traditional goose feast.

Two legends tie him to the goose. One tells that out of humility he hid in a barn to avoid being ordained, but the noisy geese gave him away. Another claims a flock of geese interrupted one of his sermons. Either way, goose became the centrepiece of the celebration, which also marked an old tax deadline when poultry was often used as payment. Today, St. Martin’s Day is still observed across Germany with goose feasts, music and festivities.
