Our Story
Once home to the German Gymnastics Society, now a modern restaurant
Our stunning Grade II listed building, constructed by the German Gymnastics Society in 1865, was home to London’s first indoor Olympic Games in 1866—and again in 1908.
In 2014, Conran and Partners re-designed the space and German Gymnasium reopened in 2015 as a café and restaurant.
Today, you can sip and dine in the same space where spectators once watched athletes. Look up—you’ll see the original hooks used for rope climbing and aerial feats. The Gym has long been a pioneer, offering women’s fitness classes before they were fashionable.
